Nasceu em Vila Rica, no Brasil em ano incerto. Formou-se em Filosofia e Matemática em 1805 e depois em Medicina, Novembro de 1808. Entre 1819-1825 leccionou Anatomia e foi demonstrador interino entre 1825-1830 foi 6° lente e 1830- 1834, 4º lente da universidade.
Born in Vila Rica, Brazil in an uncertain year. He graduated in Philosophy and Mathematics in 1805 and then in Medicine, November 1808. Between 1819-1825 he taught anatomy and was an interim demonstrator between 1825-1830. Between 1830-1834, he was 6th and 4th lens from the university.
Foi suspenso da Universidade em Junho de 1824 por motivos políticos sendo reintegrado em Junho 1828. Em 1833 é nomeado para estudar a epidemia que grassava em Aveiro, publicando depois um relatório deste trabalho. Organizou o Teatro Anatómico e o Museu Patológico da Faculdade de Medicina. Foi feito Comendador da Ordem de Cristo por D. Miguel, recebendo também a confirmação de D. Pedro IV. Foi demitido da Universidade em Julho de 1834, por ser considerado desafecto às ideias do liberalismo. Faleceu em Coimbra a 14 de Março 1844.
He was suspended from the University in June 1824 for political reasons and was reinstated in June 1828. In 1833 he was appointed to study the epidemic that was raging in Aveiro, and later published a report of this work. He organised the Anatomical Theater and the Pathological Museum of the Faculty of Medicine. He was made Commander of the Order of Christ by D. Miguel, also received confirmation from D. Pedro IV. In July 1834, he was dismissed from the University because he was considered disaffected by the ideas of liberalism. He died in Coimbra on March 14, 1844.
